of ignorance heading downwards to the middle ages: Our Vice President.
Ok, I know I said I was going to stick to writing fun stuff from now on, but this piece of news has not sat well with me and my stomach.
You remember that Muslim cleric who married a 12 year old and plans to marry another two children aged 9 and 7? Well, although he has caved in to the pressure of the media (and blogs) and ‘returned’ the little girl back to her parents, although there is no clear indication whether the marriage was annuled or whether they had a divorce, things aren’t really OK. Apparently the girl is no longer a virgin because he consummated the marriage and there are even rumors that the girl is currently pregnant, as my blogging peer Rob has reported here.
If she is indeed pregnant, that is a scary thought because a 12 year old girl is far from ready to have a baby, emotionally and physically. There is also the possibility of the baby being other than 100% healthy.
You might think what is the relation between this case and our Vice President whom I have accused of being one of the reason why our country is this way today. Well, apparently Mr. Vice President is all for the pedophile marriage. Yes, you heard me, he is a staunch supporter of it, even. (The link is in Indonesian but I have translated it for you below)
Vice President Jusuf Kalla has finally commented on the marriage of Pujiono Cahyo Widianto aka Syekh Puji with a 12 year old girl Lutviana Ulfah. JK admitted that his mother had also married at a young age.
“Just like Syekh Puji who married a 12 year old girl, my mother married when she was 13 years old. It wasn’t something out of the ordinary then,” He said while laughing.
This information was disclosed in the opening of the National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Children’s Protection Commission (KPAI) at the Vice President Residence, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta Pusat, on Tuesday (18/11/2008).
This is not really a good move for him, and saying this nearing the elections too! I guess he is sick and and tired of being the Vice President. Or he is just sick, period. 12/13 year olds shouldn’t be married and having babies, they should be at school learning and out playing with friends.
Shame on you, JK, for making people think pedophilia is a normal thing.

anyway, about jusuf kalla, what can I say? He was the one who think that Indonesia could benefit from the abundance of sinetron-star look by giving green lights to all those Arabian men who couldn’t keep their pants on (or robe on?) when looking at fine Indonesian widows LOL
