Seriously, I am so sick of hearing people’s opinion regarding the continuous natural disasters hitting Indonesia and especially reading people’s status updates on facebook that continue to say that these natural disasters are God’s will or that God is angry at Indonesians, etc.
Some even go as far as connecting the time of the earthquakes to verses in their holy books. I mean, come on people, wake up and smell the coffee!
If you still think like that and you are in college or university or graduated from either one, I feel sorry for you, it seems like you wasted a lot of money and didn’t get your money’s worth which is to turn you into individuals with brains that actually function with logic and reason.
Indonesia Anonymous was nice enough to say that they see nothing wrong in being religious and thinking that these disasters were the will of God. Well I think it’s really stupid to think that this has anything to do with God, and the same thing with being religious, but that’s just me and my motor mouth’s opinion.
Just to answer those religion fans out there that might have some beef with me (and by beef I mean crazy rage that might want me dead for even suggesting that their God is a very mean, egotist and vengeful God who is a crazy narcissist wanting constant attention and smites people when he doesn’t have it by way of tsunami/earthquake/forest fires/floods/insert your favorite natural disasters here) and ask “So Miss Smarty Pants, if it’s not God who made all of this happen, then who did? Whose fault is this??”
To all religious zealots out there, the things that cause these natural disasters are:
a. Well, other than the fact that our country is on a very sensitive part/plateau of the earth where things like this is bound to happen, it’s also ..
b. The greed of our government and big companies who pay off those in the government for letting them continue to cut trees, eroding the land; big fishing companies who catch ALL kinds of fishes (sometimes boots and cans, just like in cartoons) and destroy corals and other stuff in the sea, also causing erosion and disturbance in the sea while making money; letting just about anybody with money and resources tamper with nature for the sake of getting more Rupiahs, making Ibu Pertiwi (tr. what we call Indonesia when we were little, a romanticized name of the archipelago) more susceptible to damage and natural disasters.
It’s not God’s will, really. It’s the greed and stupidity of our government and the rich people who steer the government (my analogy: Government = monkey; Rich people who steer the government = Monkey trainers who have a LOT of bananas).
The sad thing is that as usual the poor are always the victims. And most of the rich are too busy jet setting or partying to care what happens to the poor. It’s a shitty world we live in and it really stinks. Cos shit stinks.

Ooww jangan galak-galak dong ntar cepet tua lho
Earthquake, malaysia, mention anything else…the point is those are the cycle of pieces of crap of life. Greedy-stupid men did and the innocences paid for it (*cape deh*) and over and over again.
I believe the saying in holy Al Quran but I haven””t so much brain and guts to judge this and that. So better for me to go on with my routine (ignorant mode on), hehe.
Btw, long time no visit, been extremely busy over here
“Duh, gak galak kok yon.. kan gue dari dulu gini..
”
Hey You…nice rant!I thought that the tsunamis, earthquakes, and other natural disasters were because SBY was born on an unlucky day and the stars have been aligned against him since the day of his birth. Just ask Permadi
I was so impressed by this that I even had to make a post about the bad luck SBY has had all his life. However, I, too, have wondered about a vengeful God that kills the innocent through natural disasters. It must be pretty boring being God and having to sit around all day for all eternity trying to devise different havoc and mayhem each day.Oh well.
“hahahha.. yeah that SBY theory is also very funny.. and I imagine God to be a cool dude who surfs and plays wii, and not a stupid close minded God who gets angry and kills people just for personal satisfaction..”
Now that”’’s a rant. You make us look like a sissy.Allow is here to clarify a bit, in case your reader don””t have time to read our actual post that you mentioned above:We did say there is nothing wrong with being religious. But:Some deaths (if not most) that occurred after
the earthquake are actually preventable. And it is our fault that we
failed to do so. Not God”’’s.So we shouldn””t call it God”’’s will. Not yet.At least that”’’s the essence of the post. And one point we would like to add: yes, the world is ”’’shitty”” as you put it and the government at many levels are corrupt. But we do meet people who are in the government and who share the same idealism that you have. And this people at times risking their career for what people around them see as ””going against the wave””.So there is hope.
“hehhehehe.. you guys are not sissies.. it’’s me who has a truck driver’’s mouth and fingers that types along what my mouth would say..
and thanks for sharing the fact that there are still people in the government who still have the same idealism as me and you, that really gives a glint of hope..”
If I were a religious one, after thinking that this is God”’’s will and what not, I would start thinking, “OK, this is getting old. Is God really that mean?” Then I would grab a book and read more, or go back to school and educate myself a bit, boost my brain and finally able to draw a conclusion myself. Oh that”’’s right… I did 13 years ago!
“Lol.. so did I..”
whoaa…I couldn””t stand it either Rima. Thanks for voicing it. Totally in your side about this. If majority Indonesians think that natural disasters caused by god”’’s will, then Indonesia will certainly never be success in encountering the real issue behind it! Better do something (scientifically) wiser than just “pasrah” hmmmphff…
“Ah udah, pasrahin aja sama Alloh… hihihihih”
Hi Rima..I agree on you to be honest.. I also sick with people on facebook saying this is god’’s will or god please dont give us any more azab….I”m not atheist or agnostic either.. I believe in god or allah, for my personal reason… but I think we really need to be rational, yes.. admit it that our country lies on pacific ring of fire….its totally unfair.. saying azab tuhan bla blahh….. its like prehistoric people minded.. using disaster or such to fear human… it’’s nature dot dot..!! its very unfair.. since I”m from Padang.. grew up there… one of my highschool friend become victim.. and I still dunoo hows others… and they said azab, azab….what’’s these people fault?? this is what I called destiny.. ini gag hanya diIndo aja kok .. dulu pernah yah..aku tuh ngomong sama ibu2 malay disingapore.. dia bilang gini… kita tuh nggak kayak Indonesia… kita nggak ada bencana2 alam… karna diIndo tuh orang2nya banyak yg bikin dosa bla bla… duh itu siibuk malay geografisnya nol… lalu yang turut prihatinnya sama bapak SBY… diheadlines koran malaysia kemarin baca gini: SBY: slalu bencana ya..duh… kok nama bisa kebetulan yahhh….believe in god or being religious is fine I guess, its a matter of choice and very personal… … but please be rational ….
daripada kita hanya bisa sedih… sekarang kita pikirin.. kalo beton gag ramah gempa…… mulai bikin infrastucture yg aman gempa….. tapi aku percaya… insyaaloh orang2 dipadang bisa cepet recover…
“Iya rahma, semoga mrk dan semua korban2 bencana alam maupun bencana bakrie selama beberapa tahun belakangan ini bisa recover sooner rather than later..”
It”’’s God”’’s will that they off their butts and prepare for the next quake that WILL come.
“That’’s just mean, Mike.. :p”
If god does in fact intervene in this world killing some people and miracuously sparing others, he/she sure does have a warped sense of who is deserving and who isn””t. Then again according to the Old Testament the big ””g”” was was pretty harsh to just about everyone when it came to doling out vengeance.
“The big g in any of the holy books is just awful, it’’s like a big GINORMOUSASSHOLE. I”d rather read other books, even comic books. The holy is just so depressing.”
One thing I don””t like about Indonesians is the obsession with religion, especially yours. It”’’s still difficult to hold an open and honest debate on this matter, even with some of your relatives and friends. Indeed in Facebook you will see the weirdest statements passing by, like praising God”’’s power and almightiness because the mosque at Situ Gintung disaster (100+ poor people perished!) didn””t drown. Maybe as long as Indonesians won””t give up this suffocating obsession and hypocrisy God will continue to strike them with all kinds of disasters.
“Lol.. I love how you close your comment.. :p”
Good to read you again Rima!
I agree with some of your points but I think there”’’s a difference between people who said it”’’s God”’’s will and those who said God is punishing them. When someone is experiencing such terrible tragedy, never mind that one”’’s house is ruined to piece (but think of the horrible death of a child), sometimes the only coping mechanism is to ”’’surrender””. Grief needs no rationalization, and if religion is helping people to overcome their sadness, than that”’’s great. To recover from such state of sadness, I found once that acceptance (pasrah, not necessarily to God but you know, to the nature of things) is the best way forward as an alternative to rationalization and the blaming game. Saying that it”’’s God”’’s will, could be equated with saying that “”it”’’s meant to be” (…. that we””re we live happens to be on where the tectonic plates like to senggol-senggolan). On the other hand, I don””t dig people who talk about a tragedy/natural disaster as if it was a punishment from God. Especially, when the people who say that are not those who are suffering directly from the tragedy! How very judgmental!Having said that, my comments above apply only for personal grievance. As a nation though, I agree with you that the government needs to step up its efforts in disaster”’’s mitigation and management.
“Surrender or pasrah is a good mechanism for some people in order to deal with tragedy and sadness, I do that too sometimes, and it keeps me sane. And I know, right? The people who keeps on saying that aren”t the ones who are victims! So it’’s really judgmental and stupid to say that, and it’’s as if the victims had done something to deserve it. Such ignorant bunch of people!”
@Rob: Yes, it’’s all SBY’’s fault. He’’s a bad luck for the country. Remove him immediately. Mwahahaha
Well, the government has fucked this country up for good, milking all the natural resources for measley money and then when something like this happened, they expect us, the people, to pick up the pieces and help each other while they just sit there being ignorant in their expensive suits, cars and hired prostitutes on each arms and all. Also, Bakrie was voted to head the Golkar party since he had the most money -money which in turn was received after sacrificing plenty of people’’s lives at Sidoarjo which until this very moment, ARE STILL HOMELESS.Go figure.
my analogy: Government = monkey; Rich people who steer the government = Monkey trainers who have a LOT of bananas ——- Kayaknya gak rugi tuh kuliah, jadi bisa bikin analogy kayak gini ^^
“Gak rugi kan????? hahahhaa”
Nice rant. I came to a point where I don””t read those comments anymore. God is punishing them, God is reminding them, etc. Why does God need us to remember Him if he is the Almighty?Maybe God is reminding us to use our brains.
“Lol.. true dat.
”
You will be interested to know (if you didn”t already) that the the new minister of (dis)information has weighed in on the side of stupidity on this very issue. Your average fanatic can be forgiven their toxic views but a cabinet minister? Unbelievable!
“I saw the article. Funny stuff!”
Do note that Indonesia Anonymus do say that it’’s not God’’s fault that deaths result following natural disasters, but ours – for not thinking.
Incidentally, I”ve started collecting the thoughts of Simpering Twitterful because he’’s proving to be a master of miscommunication and going to give us loads of blogging material over the next whenever.
And I must say that I”m getting bored with Fuzzy Bodoh.
“hehehe.. I’m getting bored with all things that relates to the Indonesian government and govt officials..”
