On monday, I got a message in facebook from a Belgian guy claiming he was with one of the radio station in Brussels, and wanted to interview me. I replied and gave him my phone number.
Shortly after, a woman called Nadia Scheys called me, she was indeed from fmbrussel, one of the most famous radio stations in Brussels. She said the radio wanted to interview an Indonesian expatriate, living in Brussel, and to ask about the upcoming Indonesian Independence day celebrations.
I asked her how they were able to find me in facebook, especially when my network in facebook is not Belgium, but Indonesia. She said they googled “Indonesian in Brussels” and found my writing that was published in Anita Carmencita’s Indonesian Expat Forum. They found the link to my blog, which had my facebook badge on it and the rest is history.
Thanks to Anita and my blogging habit (who says blogging is a waste of time?) I was ‘discovered’ by a Brussels radio station, which is a very good thing.
I asked them why they didn’t contact the Indonesian Embassy for this purpose, but they just said they wanted me (will not elaborate this point in fear some members of the embassy reading this *wink*). Mmm, no surprise there, I mean, the people in the Indonesian Embassy of Brussels aren’t exactly those who are, well, bright interesting.
Now back to the story, I agreed to be interviewed, and since I am a singer as well (a little bit of self-promotion to them proved to be a good thing) they asked me to bring a CD and told me they will play one of our songs, which is good promotion for my band.
It was all pre-recorded today, a short but sweet interview. Me being the nice patriot that I am spoke nothing but good things about Indonesia, just like a puppet most people would like me to be. I guess I can do that sometimes, but certainly not too much, cos I’d rather die then be sell outs like Indonesian civil servants (read: diplomats) that keep on assuring people Indonesia is in good hands and that things are improving some people.
Please do not laugh (or do so but pretend you love it when telling me to boost my deflated self-confidence) at my voice or the interview, as I was a bit nervous when doing it. The fact that I haven’t spoken in (proper) English and interact with people that actually speak (proper) English in quite sometime doesn’t help either. (It does, however, speed the process of my English skill deterioration). What really sucked was that I couldn’t do the interview in French nor Dutch because I’m not fluent in either, but the radio was cool about it and the host, Chantal De Smedt, was cool enough to translate some bits for her Dutch speaking audience (I should just die)
So for those of you interested to listen to the interview, it will be aired on Sunday at FM Brussel, 98.8 fm. To hear it streaming, you can go to fmbrussel on Sunday, between 2 and 2.30 pm Belgian time, or 7 to 7.30 pm Jakarta time. For those who are not able to do so, I will post it sometime next week, when I get the copy of the interview. For those who do not want to hear me yacking off, don’t do it, cos nobody asked you to.

Nice one Rima.
This is what blogging is about, not widgets and gossip, the voice of the ‘common’ people has to be heard.
Not that any of us think you are common, of course.
“I’m as common as the next crazy person, that’s true.. but I love blogging and I am glad that they found me through my writing and thought i am interesting enough for an interview.. that was a very good boost for my self esteem..”
Oh wow… Good for you girl, well done, congratulations.. Would love to hear the interview..

I knew something was not right yesterday. I was watching TV and I had in my mind something I was supposed to be doing, until I realised it was to listen to your interview!!
Bummer! Now I have to wait for the recorded version of it
PS: LOVE THE ZARA BAG!!
“you will be able to hear it sometime this week, and I’m glad you like the bag!”
Fab babe!
“Thanks doll!”
Wah congratulation! Finally, blogging habit brings luck to your music career.
Haha kalimat yang ini :
“Me being the nice patriot that I am spoke nothing but good things about Indonesia, just like a puppet most people would like me to be.”
Duilah, kesannya kepaksa banget
But I heard an advice that we shouldn’t speak our honest opinion/objection to public/media. Because if we did so, then get ready to be hit by “boomerang” since there are many people want to use our words as weapon against us. Well, I don’t know because I’m not a celebrity but I think the advice makes sense anyway
Btw, I’m waiting the written version of your interview starting from now (set dah ngebet aja bu!)
“Thanks ya yon..
gak gitu kepaksa kok.. Indonesiaku tetep kucinta, segelintir orangnya ingin kutimpa.. lol”
[...] For those of you who did not get the chance to hear it on Sunday, here is my interview with FMBRUSSEL I have told you about in my previous post. [...]
