Note: I have, again, been tagged by Tree to do a post inspired by one of the song titles on this list.
There are some titles that inspired me, but these are what inspired me the most:
“Animal I Have Become” – 3 Days Grace
“Almost Lover” – A Fine Frenzy
“Losing My Religion” – R.E.M.
“Ghost In My Machine” – Annie Lennox
“When I Think About You I Touch Myself”- Blondie
“It’s Hard To Be Tender” – Carly Simon
“Naked As We Came” – Iron & Wine
“Virtual Insanity” – Jamiroquai
“Walk on the Wild Side” – Lou Reed
“Don’t Mess With The Dragon” – Ozomatli
I actually have the perfect story accompaniment for every single one of the titles up there, especially the Blondie song but I decided to go with “Naked as We Came” by Iron & Wine.
I’m tagging whoever is interested to do a post inspired by the list.

Birds are leaving over autumn’s ending
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open, naked as we came
One will spread our ashes ’round the yard
– Naked as we came – Iron & wine
We all know that the Indonesian anti pornography bill was just passed by our distinguished lawmakers. As expected, a lot of people were deeply disappointed by this, some (including me) and even more bloggers are more disgusted than disappointed that the law is passed.
The law is many things but good for the nation. For instance, it is forcing uniformity to a nation that consists of diverse people with diverse culture, morals and norms. The law has chapters that will justify radicals to invade other people’s privacy and take matters into their own hands. The basis of the law isn’t even the original culture of our nation, but an imported one.
Indonesia is not a land of sexual predators and perverts that needs a law of this kind. Indonesians in general have a very mild manner and quite proper and shy when it comes to sexuality. Indonesians aren’t some savage beasts with endless desires to rape women at the sight of bare flesh. Indonesia isn’t a nation of constant masturbators who touch themselves until their genitals and hands turn black and blur at the sight of pornographic material. Indonesians aren’t perverts with no self control who will jump each other and commit indecent acts if the law is not passed. We are quite decent people (except for the small group of people suffering from a profound retardation of the mind)
The law may be a necessity for the lawmakers themselves, as they are the ones who would benefit the most from it, seeing as they are actually a bunch of self righteous and perverse immoral bigots. The lawmakers, or the ‘people’s representatives’, are definitely not representing the people. They know nothing about the people, they represent but a small group of sanctimonious hoity-toities with no knowledge of anything besides what is between their legs.
They.
Make.
Me.
Sick.
The human mind is a powerful thing and it can be preconditioned to so many things. There are evolved humans on one part of the world that are able to fully use and control their brains and emotions to live a productive and good life, without committing a crime, perverse or otherwise. On the other hand, I am flabbergasted to see the other side of the coin, the people on the other part of the world. The underestimated, misunderstood people who are deemed as though they are a bunch of stupid and immoral animals by their own government , so weak that they must be governed with a strict and ridiculous set of laws designed for brainless creatures with no willpower or restraint.
People who believe in fairy tales know that Adam and Eve were always naked, there were no clothes then. Their kids were probably naked too, as were their grandchildren. We were all born naked, all our flesh bare in all its glory. If you go to a nudist colony or a nature’s colony, you will see people with no clothes on interacting with each other naturally, without the men having a perpetual erection and ready to hump the nearest nude lady.
So if this is the case, why are our lawmakers so afraid of a little flesh? Why are our lawmakers so convinced that sexuality and sensuality is the root of all evil? Why are our lawmakers so stupid that they think a preposterous piece of law would magically turn the nation all good and powerful?
My grandmother once said that we are what we are most afraid of. If you look in the mirror and stare hard and deep, you will be able to recognize your deepest darkest fears.
I guess this must have been the case for our lawmakers. God knows how many immoral scandals they have had, a case where a female lawmakers with head-covers caught red handed getting frisky with a male colleague in an elevator, male lawmakers that are implicated in sexual affairs with women who are not their official life partners, and of course, the very common corruption cases.
They are the ones with a problem of self-control, they are the ones who aren’t evolved and can’t keep their genitals in their pants, they are the ones who are perverse and is perpetually masturbating at the sight of a little flesh and they are the ones who cannot differentiate between wrong or right and in dire need of a law to govern their silly little pea-brains. So tell me, why are we always the ones to suffer? Why are do we keep on accepting whatever it is they hand over to us?
Remember kids, the DPR (People’s Representatives) are like bullies. Today they take our lunch, tomorrow they take our homework, the next day they take our homes, the day after they are likely to fuck our wives/husband/kids. If we stay quiet while they are given the power to fuck with our way of lives, who knows what will happen tomorrow. Keep quiet and find out. Except then it’ll be too late.

Sad isn’t it ? We are paying for a small group of people’s perversion. And don’t get me started on its potential implications to some radical groups a la FPI.

There is a show on Trans TV aired every Tuesday I think, it’s about the KPK Investigation and it’s quite good but if you watch it, you’ll be very depressed, as it shows how moral bankruptcy has become so normal that practically everyone succumbs to corruption without giving a second thought.
With the way things going, might as well change the country’s name from Indonesia to Indo Arabia because it looks like it’s heading that way.
The thing is Rim, some people (or shall I say, most) don’t like how things are going with this country, but there are also other parties that feel the opposite.
And what about me? Honestly, I don’t care. I’ve become so selfish I don’t give a shit anymore about the government or whatever it is they’re trying to concoct during their useless meetings that cost my tax-paying money.
All I can do is to make sure I live my life and do things the right way. Although I sometimes feel sad because I still love my country no matter what, but it’s like loving a person who is a drug addict – you love him but you’re sad because he keeps harming himself intentionally.
It’s like watching a self-inflicting person die a slow and painful death.
therry´s last blog post..Barack Obama Wins!
Didn’t the Divinyls sing “I touch myself”? Chrissie Amphlet (sp?)? Maybe one or the other covered the song, but the song “I touch myself” was big in Aus when I was growing up.
Keep writing,
M
Hi Rima, This is the comment I put on Therry’s post
I real worry about the priorities here. I think it is far more morally repugnant that kids die of hunger, lack basic medical care or can’t attend school in this country than some miss guided call to halt the so called “moral decline” in society.
But what do i know???
I also commented with the blame culture, here in Indonesia. It seems that we are blaming some, “especially” women, for the sins of man.
Bugger I hate that!!
@Fajar Jasmin: Yes, this is a sad, sad thing. I’m sorry I didn’t exactly do ‘creative writing’ like I was supposed to, but this is what I had in mind..
@therry: It looks like you’ve lost all hope, doesn’t it? The thing is, if ppl stay quiet and take whatever it they are given, things are gonna be worse, but if ppl speak up and educate other people on their rights as a citizen of a country, human rights etc, then things might be able to turn better.
@Mullet: I have no idea.. but I know the blondie song..
@gjjakarta: Hey GJ.. The fact is, you and many other (sane) ppl know that the law and other things similar to that is bullshit. Moral decline is not just sex. But nobody in the government wants to hear about it. It’s another case of ‘wag the dog’ (the movie) to distract ppl from the real problem. it’s shitty but it’s true.
As for blaming women, well, what can you expect from a country full of people that are blind followers of a misogynist belief?
Oh Rim,
You could probably tell that I am one of those bloggers who are bitching about this ridiculous law. Please somebody drown these people and let them out only when their brains are washed LOL
the writer´s last blog post..S.A.D.
Rim, I would love to educate those people, but how? Tell me how. They just don’t want to listen to our voice, no matter how hard we scream.
ecky´s last blog post..Yes, We can
It always frustating talking all those bunch of moron at DPR. What do you expect, they not even pass their kindergarten class. No scale of priority, no sense of urgency, no sense of humanity…. I believe their motto is trying to make (read as make/earn) the best that they can while still in power. They can’t even differentiate anymore which one is corruption or not…. CRAZY!!!!
What do you think of the news a couple of days ago when our head of People’s Rep, after Obama won the election, requested Obama to extradite Alex Manuputty of RMS to Indonesia? Does he think Obama owe him something or what? He’s the head of People’s Rep but the way of thinking is like a lazy beggar(not all of them are lazy though) that thinks the whole world owe them something. It’s very fucked up there in the parliament and nobody able to do anything nowadays. They’re only thinking about their own ass and “shaft”. Our own election is quite near, out of all those dunno-how-many-parties I still don’t know which one to choose. I want to choose the ones that walked-out when the bill was passed, but they also have their own bad track records. I guess we can only choose not to vote for those religious based parties, group the others together and do a lottery before we vote.
Charlie´s last blog post..Apakah SBY Masih Dapat Dipercaya?
@the writer: Yeah I know how you are. Between you and me, we have enough cussing and ranting about the indo govt to last a lifetime! lol
@ecky: We can do that by doing what we are doing now. Writing about it, making a stand and voicing out opinions. That is already something..
@kutu loncat: Yeah, it makes me sick to my stomach and leaves me speechless most times. sad is all i can say..
@Charlie: Oh gawd, that is idiotic. Tambah malu aja deh di mata international..
hi Rima,
