26 dead in an annual Ramadan cash handout from rich people. Yahoo reported that the cash handout was around USD 4.25. Goddamnit, that’s less than what a person spends in Starbucks! Why are the poor getting poorer every second in Indonesia? But more importantly, why does things like this keep on happening to a country that is ’supposedly’ better than ever?
Brainfreeze is up to minus 3 degrees, any more my brain’s gonna blow up.

Like Social Minister said, it was really tragic and EMBARRASSING. And the police has recorded apparently that the same guy last year made the same thing and a person was killed! AND the police was just silence this year??
Side note: see Mbak Rima, how poor (and fool) Indonesians are. Our landmates! We need to fight there, literally!
“How can we fight it?”
It’s not just money. Every once in a while there’s a give away of something be it money or just stuff. And there’s always a stampede. And somebody dies.
26 people dying? I think the person that caused this should be arrested for inciting a riot.
“Last I hear, I think the persons who caused this are being investigated and there is a big chance they will be charged for inciting a riot.”
It’s because the government too busy to discus the Pornography Law.
Well, the problem because of the poverty in Indonesia and lost of trust to Badan Amil Zakat which run by the government. While actually Badan Amil Zakat is not like what their thought. Lot of things that Badan Amil Zakat has done to the people.
“I just think those people who are giving the cash handouts are silly for doing so that way. They can try to distribute it discreetly as to prevent something like this. It’s such a shame for this to happen, and to think those who died most likely have kids that depend on them. Who’s gonna take care of the kids?”
You wanna hear embarassing: sitting in an airport with clients and THIS shows up on 16 foot screens: the ONLY news about Indonesia since Suharto carked it!
“You are embarrassed? And you are not even an Indonesian! Try me being asked about this by Belgians here who are confused as to how poor our nation really is. I didn’t know what to say!”
oooh yang antri zakat itu ya?! gara2 ini, ada yang jadi tersangka (anaknya ato siapanya, gak ngerti). tragic and confusing.
i hope your brain won’t blow up hearing this one, there’s a rumour says today will happen an enormous earthquake.
lucky you living in a country that doesn’t provide trifling news like these
“Itu yang membagi2kan zakat sudah sepantasnya ditangkap karena menyebabkan rusuh. Mereka kan sebetulnya bisa melakukan zakat ini dengan cara lain. Udah tau banyak org miskin, mrk bikin acara begini, di pikiran gue bukan jadi kaya ngasih zakat, tapi ibarat ngasih makanan ke segerombolan binatang yang kelaparan, kan jahat.. “
Can you equate lives to Starbucks???
Whne I pointed out that some girls sell themselves for less than the price of a big Mac some idiot and his boyfriend went crazy….
“It’s just a comparison that one cup of starbucks coffee for some of us mean nothing but for some of this people it’s apparently a lot, enough to lose their lives over. Very sad and makes me sick to the stomach
It’s stupid that some people fuss about comparisons like this because it’s true”
I’m starting to think these people are doing it in purpose as a sacrifice to ’something’, if you catch my drift…
“I dont catch your drift. Will have to ask you later on”
Ehm, Mbak, you asked me how to fight?
One main theme: Do not let fools get decisive positions anymore.
It’s not just Indonesia; all around the world the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It used to be the rich got fat and the poor just stayed that way. The good old days.
Greed sucks. There is no such thing as “enough.”
“Nope, no such thing. Greedy bastards should be kicked in the nuts repeatedly. I’d apply for the job as the nutkicker..”
Charity is a double edged sword. One one side you have a beautiful, altruist act of kindness. On the other, it may create dependancy and a loss of obligation (in this case, by the government).
I think, if the government, or people as collectives, can see the idea of lifting our friends out of poverty in a pragmatic way (rather than religious, altruist, etc), we may have an answer to reducing the number of poor people. Somehow we should try to make it obvious that by getting people economically better would benefit everybody (and thus otherwise would be detrimental).
I hope I’m making sense lol. It’s almost 5 in the morning and I have shitload of work for today.
“I have so many things to do, and it’s 21.13 already which leaves me little time to do them.
You are of course absolutely right and you still make sense, dont worry.
Government sucks, that is all i have to say. Cant be bothered by them anymore, I lost hope.”
My family always do this in my home town on the last day of fasting month, we try to share our fortunate to these poor people, if you see their face when they received the envelope you will feel that God has given so much to you. I was cry every time I see their happy face although the amount money might be nothing for you and me and most of us here but it meant so much for them.
We usually make a list who will get the money so we can know how much should we give to each of them. I’m not saying that the person is bad by doing it, maybe he was just want to share his fortunate but he also should prepare the secure way of doing it.
He should prepare everything and come up with the best mechanism on how to do it.
“Yeah, it’s just a shame that they did not arrange it better.. and people should have been told to queue.. “
Rima wrote: “Gimana yach supaya berhenti care?”
You won’t!! Or I will seek you the first time I arrive in Belgium and brainwash you!
Fighting dumbasses in Indonesia is a lifetime job and seem to be interesting. Just enjoy it. You will, Rima, be always care them, because your Indonesian blood haunts you everytime you breath!
“Bener mau dateng kesini??? lol…
Yeah, the Indonesian in me gets pissed off all the time about these things, even when I promised not to care anymore..”
Perhaps, just perhaps, if Indonesia had a reasonable and fair system of taxation, then there would be less disparity between rich and poor, and no need to hand out money. True it may meek you feel good when you see their happy faces once a year. The poor buggers starve the rest. FOURTY MILLION Indonesians live on less than $2 a day…………..
“Keep on wishing, it might come true one day..”
