The title is a bumper sticker I got from here. I love it, and I think I might go out and get the T-shirt too. There are many others I like such as:
“Two hands working can do more than a thousand hands clasped (or cupped) in a prayer”
“Abstinence makes the church grows fondlers”
“Atheism (or agnosticism) – a non-prophet organization”
“He’s your God, they’re your rules”
“Isn’t it time YOU evolved?”
“Blasphemy is a victimless crime”
“God created man. Man created religion. Religion murdered God.”
“Faith and ignorance shares the same toothbrush”
“You go Yahweh, I’ll go mine”
“Atheism (or agnosticism). living sin free and finally happy!”
“Religion is myth-information, Atheism is myth-understood”
“Q. How Can You Tell That Your God is Man-made? A. If He Hates All the Same People You Do.”
“If we were made is his image, then why aren’t humans invisible too?”
“If God wanted us to believe in religions, then why did he invent logic?”
“God doesn’t kill people, people who believe in God (religions) kill people”
and finally,
“There’s a reason why atheists (or agnostics) don’t fly planes into buildings”
The Encyclopedia of stupid says that Religion is stupid (and as you probably have guessed, I think that too)
Religion has been called “the opiate of the masses,” and despite the fact that the quote comes from Karl Marx who was wrong about everything else, he got this one right.
You see, when monkeys developed sufficiently large enough braincases, they suddenly were able to grasp the concept that they would one day die. This was not something that the monkeys were very keen on, and so they immediately set about imagining scenarios in which this evident truth would be anything but. Religion is, therefore, a way for monkeys to deal with the pain of knowing that they will die, much like other monkeys use drugs and alcohol to accomplish the same task.
The problem with all this is that not all monkeys get along equally well, and they could not accept that everyone would get to have a glorious afterlife, so they invented everlasting punishment for the monkeys they didn’t like, referring to them as sinners. Sinners are in Satan’s grasp.
The problem with this, of course, is that the monkeys consigned to everlasting punishment by their brethren were busy creating their own schemes of eternal bliss and damnation to inflict upon the other monkeys, and thus war was born.
Another reason religion was invented was to control the behavior of stupid people. For instance, if an old and fat guy told you you couldn’t have lots and lots of sex with whoever you wanted because he was jealous of your youthful vibrance, you’d probably laugh him off (and maybe punch him in the face). But if he convinces you there’s an invisible, omnipotent deity who agrees with him and who will punish you, then he can control you completely. Seriously, priests are just creepy manipulative old people.
This is so true funny that it’s sad. I got the following comic strip from Creepy’s blog, and I think it’s hilariously true and relevant to most religions (replace Jesus with any of the other religion’s God/prophet and you got it nailed)
While we’re at it, how about some other religious is stupid funny cartoons? These made me crack up:
And last but not least, how everyone damns America for being the super awesome power that it is today:
Personally, I’m happy I have Sundays off, as a day to rest and relax at home, not having to excuse my self 5 times a day to worship God and other mumbo-jumbo superstitions. Like I care or even believe that hell exist.
And anyway, religious people/religions say a killer/child molester/rapist who repents his/her sin and promises not to do it again will go to heaven and me, being an agnostic and all, will definitely go to hell. To tell you the truth, after hearing that I don’t think hell is such a bad place to end up in anymore.
cartoons taken from various sources in the net, some of which I don’t remember, but some I do such as:

Too stupid to understand science? Try religion….

I love:
“Q. How Can You Tell That Your God is Man-made? A. If He Hates All the Same People You Do.”
Thanks for the first smile of the day
“No problemo babes!! It is kinda true though, don’t you think?”
it’s a nice posting…
btw i was studying physic for my bachelor degree.
Big chance to change your faith when you were studying the procces how this universe exist.
and of course they didn’t mention “GOD” in the text book.
But however, i can not see HIM, but i can feel HIM.
In every step of my life, HE is guiding me..
we can not understand religion by our little- tiny-limited brain. Because our brain is too small to understand how big HE is…
Indah Sitepu´s last blog post..Tetanggaku Ditemukan Tewas
“I still think religion is man made, and that it’s something totally unnecessary.
I can still understand if a person believes in God, but to believe in God a person doesn’t need to believe in a religion.. Like me, I still somewhat believe in God, but I REALLY do not believe in any religions at all. They are poison, to my mind, at least..”
hahaha i have a cousin who told me of an incident. He was in Singapore and was stopped by a group of teens telling him to convert to Christian. They told him that God will forgive him as long as he repents. He asked, “So if I am to die tomorrow, and I ask for God’s forgiveness and repent, you mean I get to go to Heaven?” They said ‘yes, as long as you realize what u did was wrong and willing to change’ and my cousin said,”Oh I get it. So next time if I happen to kill someone, I just asked for God’s forgiveness and I’ll be sure to go to Heaven then.” They were speechless LOL

Happy Sunday to all.

Please allow me to defend monkeys and other animals from people that think they don’t have the capability to think
They do know that they will die, that’s why they developed the emotional capability to procreate, run away when they sense danger, play dead(freeze), etc, etc. We call the logical side of our brain “thinking”, while the emotional side we usually relate to our heart, but actually all happened in the brain. And the best thing is, like it or not, the emotional part is far faster and can easily overwhelm our logical part. That’s why the small head down there can easily rule over men’s big head, and that’s also what makes some of us frozen in fear although logically we should run away. Animals do know how to “think”, but they rely mostly on their emotion for survival in the wild. Logical thinking is just far too slow for them. For us, logical animals, we don’t have to worry about food so much and have all the time in the world to create religion to rule over the world worser than all tyrrants combined
Sorry for the long rant Rima.
“no need to apologize, I too think animals can think and feel to a certain degree. It’s much simpler than us over complicated humans but sometimes i feel simple is better. imagine if all humans are like monkeys, with that kind that of limitation to think, i dont think the world will be in its current state with the ozone layers torn apart, pollution, war etc..”
Ah, but do remember that sometimes it’s not faith, but rather nervous insecurity.
In famous Deist John Armstrong’s words;
I don’t know about you, I think it’s bullseye. Here’s the video [link], which is quite a nice piece.
“That’s true. I have always thought that people who blindly defends what they believe in are just insecure about their belief.
The video you gave nails the mark totally. I strongly recommend it to everybody, believer or non believer. thanks for the video!”
@Kgeddoe –
Kgeddoe Mach Jabber, excellent video. Couldn’t agree more. Teh Rima, I referred to your blog post at IM’s Atheists and Atheist Beliefs post.
“Yes and it has opened old wounds.. lol look at the war that’s going on there..”
LOL
Hmmm, I don’t know.
At one point of my life (and I’m not OLD!!!!!
) I found religion to be just a tool to enslave the masses. But a quick study into the history of it, you can start to see how religion and culture have fed each other, and have produced many amazing stories, rituals, dances, etc. I mean well it’s very easy to say, given the current climate of increasing secularism (actually for the past couple of centuries), that religion has no place in the modern world. But even the modern era has passed, and many saw the failure of homogenization of idea stifles progress. Religions and cultures have shaped the idea of people/nations worldwide, and the diversity of it is something that, I think, we must celebrate. Math and astronomy made great leaps during the first few centuries of Islamic empires. Tribal music (that is very spiritual in nature) in Africa, allegedly (and there actually has been a study) is the origin to blues music. So although I agree it’s very unfortunate that can be so blindly misguided by what is supposedly “peaceful” religions, we also have to acknowledge the complexities of differing interpretations of religious texts by different people (and different level of testosterone).
Sorry I know this entry is meant to be light hearted
Just can’t help it hahaha
“Not a problem, thanks for your point of view. I find your comments to be very interesting.
”
If you are an atheist, a so called rational skeptic, then tell me this.
When refuting the argument of god, you made the distinction of a christian god.
This is bashing a sub-section of a group, and applying its stigma to the entire group alone. Oh logical one, this is a fallacy.
Further more, your “argument” against the existence of god consisted of copied one liners, comics, and general hatred and dismissal of anyone who happens to think otherwise, with no consideration to there point of few besides.
Also, you dismissed the work of Karl Marx. Communism may not be a viable method of running a country in our current state. Every attempt at communism in our history has been a socialist country and does not reflect true communism. Karl Marx was trying to find a way out of a monetary driven and controlled society by changing the distribution of power. At least he tried. What have you done besides dismiss others out of hatred and fear.
You attempt to speak out of the evils of religion. You miss the point. If you replaced the subject of your argument, religion, with say, the word and jokes resulting around the negative stereotype of Jews, this wouldn’t be so free thinking and rational wouldn’t it.
Having a good time doesn’t have to result to bashing people you disagree with. Any rational person can understand after reviewing and living (perhaps more of) life a person decides their own view of their mortally, and our place in this world, and whether or not god exists, we don’t know.
That’s right, we don’t know. Try using your rational brain to die and come back to tell me. We are a mass of energy (guess what kids, physics)reacting with a larger mass of energy in a vacuum hanging somewhere in space, and you think a perfectly logical explanation is going to satisfy you?
Well, perhaps that is all there is. But I would encourage to keep your perception open. Something created us, whether it be eternal, finite, or purely a natural function.
have you made the T-shirt, Rima?
May I order one?
Twango: I still believe in God or a higher being, but I do not believe that God is what religions taught us to be, and i certainly do not believe in religions because most of what’s in it is quite stupid and silly. And guess what? There are plenty of people out there who believe in God but do not believe in Religions, and I find them the sanest of all..
Nana: Not yet.. not planning to .. hehheheh but anyways I liked the things that I find on the net like what I have posted in this entry..
Ok… so I read everything all the way through… Religion as control and government and I can go on and on….The question that I”m not seeing is:
“Does the human race need
faith and the belief in a God to settle our worries and fears about
what we don’t know even if we can disprove many beliefs with science
and fact?””For most… I think the answer is yes…. Many can not deal with the unknown or have fear for the future. So which belief’’s are right? Who’’s religion is the best? Well… I would have to save that for another place as my comment would be pages…
I have quite recently started to hate religion when I was younger i was not sure but I have started to look into science and its interesting but at the same time saddens me to think how advanced we could have been without religion. but now we continue to argue the existence god.our time on this earth is running out people. why spend it resuring yourself and being ignorant. im not going to see any major breakthroughs in my life time but if we think rationally our sons our sons sons may.
